Cancer Schmancer Movement

Many of you have heard about the new mammogram guideline put out by the United States Preventive Services Task Force that women without unusual cancer risks should not begin regular screening for breast cancer until age 50.

As we continue to advocate for prevention and early detection, this only puts a roadblock in helping women become medical consumers and discourages them to take control of their bodies in order to prevent cancer and detect it early!

Read the following article from the NY Times, Fox News and a statement from the ACS and let's talk about this as a group.

Ive heard this on local radio stations at my house, and they said there is no change to the guidelines....it will stay that women have to get mammograms when they reach age 40..

In Germany women get a free mammogram every two years ....starting at the age of 50 :-(
They also limit the aftercare for breast cancer survivors with the argument that an early detection won´t help :-( ...very sad.

My friend, aged 39, was diagnosed with breast cancer after she found a lump and it was confirmed with a mammogram!!! I will not take NO for an answer when requesting my yearly mammogram!!! I find the study insulting to our intelligence...we need to take control of our lives, not let others tell us what we can and cannot do!!

this whole thing is messed up. and confusing. if anything, they should enforce woman to get tests earlier, like 20's. or make insurance free, like in Canada.

People can get diagnosed with breast cancer at any age. I've heard of many women who have been diagnosed in their 40's because of mammograms. This is crazy! I also think that every 2 years is too long. That one year that you miss could be vital if you have a rapid form of cancer.
